Second Sunday Sacred Sound

  • Wholistic Sound 293 Wine Branch Road Murphy, NC, 28906 United States (map)

An early fall late afternoon sound immersion starting with kirtan- call-and-response chanting- and ending with a deeply relaxing healing sound journey.

What is kirtan? Jai Uttal says it beautifully, "Kirtan is the calling, the crying, the reaching across infinite space — digging into the heart’s deepest well to touch and be touched by the Divine Presence.

Kirtan is singing over and over the many names of God and the Goddess, the multi-colored rainbow manifestations of the One. It is said that there is no difference between the name and that which is being named, and as the words roll off our lips in song, the Infinite is invoked, invited, made manifest in our hearts."

After the kirtan there will be a short sound journey using a variety of acoustic instruments known for their ability to spontaneously induce a deeply relaxed meditative state. The combinations of flutes, gongs, singing bowls and other instruments from around the world create rich harmonics and the layering of tones, rhythms and frequencies create a magical soundscape that often have a profound effect on the listener.

The sound immersion will be followed by a potluck for those who wish to stay.
